Fuck.
The end of the cigarette flares red as Faith inhales, letting the smoke fill her lungs. It was a bad habit, and one she'd mostly cut back on since arriving in Luceti, but she needed it tonight. Or, well, she needed something to calm her nerves, and beating the crap out of someone wasn't really gonna work this time around.
Being active was how she survived here. She rarely spent time in the village, anymore. After all, that was Buffy's territory, and however much they got along now they still did better when they weren't in each other's immediate space. Instead, Faith signed herself up for as many missions as possible, and was as willing a participant as they came whenever drafts rolled around. It was a chance to chase off boredom and keep herself trained.
But the problem with war as a release meant that things got ugly...and those damn dream shifters were about as ugly as they came. Maybe if they'd stuck to trapping people in fantasy worlds....she was used to that shit being a lie. But it was harder to shake it off when it was a nightmare, because it didn't matter that this one was a dream. They'd been true too many times for her to just let it go.
The smoke spirals lazily upwards as she exhales, leaning on the railing of the porch. It's nighttime now, and quiet. A break in the fighting and they've even got beds to sleep in, thanks to the civilians booking it as far from the front lines as possible. Too bad the last thing she wants to do is sleep.
